This appliance has the potential for saving you the most
money in your home! In fact, you can save 100% energy
on the clothes dryer! How is this? NOT USING IT! This
one appliance is an needed energy monster. Yes, they
are a easy, convenient way to get your laundry done
quickly, but it comes with a hefty price. Did you know
other countries like Japan and Australia rarely use, or
even own a clothes dryer! A clothes line will guarantee
a 10-15% reduction on your electricity bill!
For those of you that still want to use your
clothes dryer and want energy savings,

Clean The Lint Trap! Clean the lint trap after EVERY LOAD! This can lead to restricted airflow that reduces
the efficiency of your clothes dryer by up to 90%! If using dryer sheets, take an old tooth brush or other soft
bristled brush, light stream of water and scrub the screen gently in the sink. Dryer sheets can leave behind a
waxy residue that clog up the holes in the screen. Note - The leading source of fires in your home are a result of
lint build-up! Besides just cleaning your lint trap after each use, you should clean your entire dryer ventilation
system each month. It can take as little as 15 minutes to do.
Average Dryer uses 5 kWh per load (1 hr.) 30 loads x $0.15 per kWh= at least $22.50/mo

Do it ALL AT ONCE! Do all of your laundry at one time to take advantage of the heat already created by the dryer.
Also, always do full loads. It doesn't use half the electricity to do half the amount of clothes.
Use Appropriate Settings! If your dryer is equipped with a "moisture sensor" use it. This will turn off the dryer
when clothes are dry. Take the time to learn how long it takes your machine to dry a load of laundry. This way you can
adjust the timer to the least amount of time needed. If equipped with a "air dry" setting, use it. This setting shuts off the
heater and allows the heat already generated from the dryer to finish the job.
Wrung Out? Before putting clothes in the dryer, make sure they are wrung out. Sometimes the spin cycle on washing
machines do not thoroughly get water out of the clothes; leaving them soaked and heavy. Wring them out in the sink
before throwing in the dryer. This will help the dryer not work so hard and cut down on drying time. Also, for the first
load in the dryer, let them sit in the dryer for a little while. Just being a little dryer can save your dryer 25% of work.
Open Door or Shut Door? If your laundry room is in the home and has a door, consider shutting it in the summer
months to not allow the warm humid air to battle the cool a/c air. In the winter, you can assist the heater by leaving the
door open.
Finders Keepers! What is that sound coming from the laundry room? Cling, clang, bang, boom, clang.... You put your ear up to the dryer door. Clang, cling, clang,
boom.... You open the door, shuffle some wet clothes around and see the shimmering silver and copper. SCORE! $0.63 found! Around TheFooser's household, we have
created a family fund based on this found fortune (which also includes the washing machine, between sofa cushions, and laundry basket). There is a dedicated 5-Gallon
Bucket (see my website "Life and Times of a 5-Gallon Bucket") for all neglected loose change and small bills found throughout the house. Once this bucket is filled with coins
and currency, it will be split 4 ways to do with whatever is wanted. It took us 4 years the first time around, and we netted $186 each! We are at a quarter filled now, and
this time I mainly see quarters with 2 $5 bills!
