With several new hair styling products being introduced every year, hairspray is being less utilized
in the salons and our homes. Not at Cindy's Hair Salon! You will always find a fresh can of hairspray
lying around, and it is not always for your hair or mine. Hairspray has many other uses around the
salon and your home. Below are some alternative uses for hairspray that you may find helpful. They
work for me!
Stop Bugging Me! Give those pesky flies, mosquitoes, wasps, and bees a quick shot of hairspray. Then watch
them fall to their death (you might have to stomp on them to finish the job). The hairspray sticks to their wings
and outer shell causing paralysis. Very effective and less toxic than bug spray!
Keep it a Secret! Women, you can get lipstick off your clothes by spraying it with hairspray, waiting a minute,
and then wiping it away. Just do not let men know this. We still need to see what is on those collars!
Stop it from Running! Pantyhose starting to run or ladder? Spray it with hairspray. This stiffens up the fibers
to prevent them from running or stop one when it starts.
Keep it Shiny! After polishing your shoes, cover them in a layer of hairspray. This creates a protective, shiny
surface. The same goes for metal you had just polished.
Stop the Bleeding! Ever have a ball point pen explode in your pocket and then get ink all over everything? On
hard surfaces, spray it with hairspray and wipe it off. On fabric, spray it with hairspray and let it soak for a minute
or two before wiping it away.
Protect IT! Spray a layer of hairspray over the child's or your artwork. This protective layers keep paper,
crayons, markers, paint, chalk, and more from fading or smudging. Also, spray it on newspaper to give it a sheen.
It makes creative and interesting wrapping paper! Lastly, spray your recipe cards with a layer of hairspray. That
way when your sauce splatters on the card, you can easily wipe it off!
Protect ME! Use for self-defense! Nothing stings more than having hairspray squirted in your eyes. It also
irritates the sinuses!
Keep Them Pretty! Spray your flowers with a layer of hairspray. This will keep those beautiful flowers from
wilting a little longer.
Zip IT! Have a stubborn zipper that will not stay closed? Give it a quick squirt of hairspray to keep it zipped! This
also works for screws that continue to come loose. Just take the screw out, spray it with hairspray, and screw it
back in. The hairspray works as a glue when it dries.
Don't be so Clingy! Static Guard uses alcohol and water to combat static cling. Guess what is in hairspray?
Spritz the inside of your garments to keep them from sticking to you.
How did the get there? Use hairspray to get that gum out of your hair and clothes. Spray the gum generously
with hairspray, wait until it dries, and then scrape it out or off!
Shed Away! Do you end up wearing more fur than your pet? Try spraying a paper towel with hairspray and
wiping off the couch and your clothes. The stickiness will pull pet hair right up!
**Though not a medical treatment, hairspray can help prevent head lice. Hairspray creates a dirty
environment for the clean loving lice. Remember, it is not a cure, but spraying a little each day in a child's
hair can significantly reduces the chances of getting head lice. Source 1, Source 2
When my blow dryer is not styling your hair, my husband and I are using for
our projects and hobbies. This is a very useful tool at Cindy's Salon, as well
as my home. Below, we explore some of the many uses for this hair drying
tool. The hair dryer does use electricity, so limit its use. .
Use it in the Kitchen! On the "cool" setting it can dry vegetables for salads, on the "warm" setting you can
harden the icing on cakes, on the "hot" setting, you can defrost meat or soften ice cream for easy scooping.
Also, use it to remove the old contact, shelf paper from drawers and cabinets. Defrost your freezer with a blow
dryer. Makes the process much quicker!
After the Romantic Night! Use a blow dryer to quickly and safely remove wax from those mood candles that
dripped onto furniture. Just heat up the wax and wipe it off! No scratches! This also works on crayon marks on
wall!
I listed this one last because it is a powerful tool that has many of the same uses as above, but nail polish remover is much
stronger! Why list it last if it is stronger? Because stronger does not always mean better, or nail polish remover should be used
as a second option. With that said, THIS STUFF IS GREAT!
Super Glue Kryptonite! Super glue will stick to just about anything, including your skin. And trying to peel it off your skin can actually scar your flesh. Instead,
soak a cotton ball with acetone-based nail polish remover and hold it on the skin until the glue disappears.
Revive White-out! Your correction fluid too gooey or dried out? Add a couple of drops of nail polish remover and shake it up. This also works with your nail polish
too!
Goo-be-Gone! Like hairspray, nail polish works well to get stickers off. It is especially useful in removing the adhesive goo behind the sticker. Just dab some on the
sticky surface with a paper towel, and wipe off. This works very well if surface is heated with a hair dryer first!
Not On My New Shoes! Scuff marks on vinyl or tile floors, as well as white leather shoes? Just a small dab of nail polish remover fixes that!
Melted Away! Did you leave your plastic stirring spoon on the stove and melt it all over? Use a washcloth with a generous amount of nail polish remover to loosen it.
Then it is very easily lifted and gone!
Messy Nessy! Use nail polish remover to remove ink stains on your skin. If the stain does not come off with soap and water alone, it probably isn't water-soluble.
Apply some nail polish remover to a cotton ball and gently wipe the area of the skin with the ink stain. After the ink stain is gone, just wash the skin with soap and
water. This is also a great way to remove ink stains left in a dryer drum.
Arts & Crafts? Out of paint thinner or mineral spirits? Use nail polish remover to clean your small paint brushes or airbrush equipment.
**Note - Most nail polish removers are acetone based. Acetone is a very toxic chemical that can ruin many materials and be harmful to the body. Use with
caution!

Hair Dryer:
Besides Hair in the Bathroom? Use it to clear the mirror of steam. Dry those pantyhose.
Bosom Buddies? For us women with larger breasts, use a hair dryer to dry under them. Sometimes a towel does not get them dry enough. Men, using a
blow dryer in that special place can prevent the dreaded chaffing. Same thing works for infants and diaper rash. Hold hair dryer 6 inches from skin on "warm"
setting.
Don't Wait! Use a blow dryer to get paint to dry quicker. This goes for nail polish too! Just put the hair dryer on "warm" or "hot" and go back and forth
across an area you want dry.
Shrink It! For gifts and things you want an air tight seal, use clear plastic wrap on "high" setting until wrap shrinks around the area you need it. Don't shrink
it too much! You don't want burnt plastic around your goodies!
Get the Wrinkles Out! In fabrics, wet a towel and wring it out. Lay this cloth over an area and use the hair dryer on max setting to get those pesky
wrinkles out.
Unscrewed! Use the blow dryer on max setting to apply heat around a stubborn screw. This relaxes the fibers around a material and allows for an easier
removal.
Now you like the other Candidate? Remove a bumper sticker or any other adhesive material by heating it up with your hair dryer. Hold it on the sticker
until you see it bubble.
Can't get a Rag in There? Use a hair dryer to blow out dust in hard to reach places, such as intricate wood engravings or artificial flower arrangements.
An Itch that can't be Reached? Use a hair dryer to blow in anti-itching powder to casts and other areas you can not reach.
Less OUCH! Use a hair dryer to help take off a band-aid. The blow dryer heats the adhesive making it easier to remove.
You didn't use a Coaster? Use a hair dryer to get rid of those white rings left on furniture. Direct the air, starting at "cold" and work up to "hot", right
onto the wood.
Frozen UP! Use a hair dryer to defrost frozen pipes, door locks, windows, and other frozen items.
Dry This! Use a blow dryer to dry rain boots or other wet shoes. This not only dries them, but can warm your feet when you put them back on.
There are many more uses for a hair dryer, and if you use your imagination just a little, I bet you come up with several other uses as well! Source 1,
